I love love love golden Aspens in the fall, and a few weeks ago we drove up Mt. Logan but the leaves hadn't turned yet. Alex has been really sweet, helping me on my scavenger hunt to capture some golden aspens for our wall. This time was about perfect. We ended up at Old Ephraim's grave, I'd never been up there before so that was neat. Kind of freaky how big a grizzly was, but I guess that's what makes it a cool monument! We've had fun exploring all the backroads in Logan's canyons, it's pretty amazing what you can access just a few miles away from home!

<img style="cursor:pointer; Never fear! I am posting for the second time this year... ahem.

So here we are, in Fall again. Well sort of. If you call 80 degrees Fall. I suspect we are getting screwed out of lovely Autumn again this year, where Summer heat turns straight into Winter's blizzarding death. I have to say I am anxious for sweaters & scarves and cute boots weather!

(obviously Kelli is writing this :)

Alex is busy in school this semester, working part-time with the refugees, and helping train someone to take over his position come January. He got a job offer in London (Hurray!) which we regretfully turned down (boo.) but think that the Salt Lake office will be a better fit for the type of Accounting he wants to do. Plus, we are more likely to return there after he finishes his Masters program.

Can I just tell you I'm THRILLED to spend a few months in SL? Logan, I love you, but I'm boredwitchu. But as far as housing, who knows where we are going to live- suggestions welcome.

I am NOT in school this semester, though it's hard to admit I miss that structured schedule in my day. I have had many a craft adventures and cooking attempts. But whenever I cook something, Alex comes home and makes it better. So I'm kind of resigned to relinquishing my title of homemaker supreme, and being merely the cook's helper. (HA). I've been doing more photo sessions, which is just fine by me, I'm officially business-licensed, so pretty much- it's legit. (www.kellidee.com) I'm hoping to get in a few more sessions before the snow forces me inside for the next six months. Bleh. I've also been working with the School District the past year as the 'Refugee Liaison', which keeps me pretty busy at the beginning and ending of semesters, and with home-visits and ESL tutoring in between.

Baby Sow is now a General Grade 2 on Halo Reach. Just Sayin.

We've spent tons of time at the Star Valley Cabin this year, as opposed to other years where our visit were far and few between. Apart from the Harris Stomach Flu Epidemic of 2 weeks ago, I would say our visits have been fabulous. Alex has been teaching me to golf. Sometimes I am slightly competitive, and other times it's like I've never held a club before. Hopeful I can get more consistent! It's nice because generally no one is around, so I don't have an audience. :)

(Hike to Periodic Springs)

um THAILAND and CAMBODIA were amazing. I just can't wait, it's hard to stay focused with something so exciting so close. I've never been abroad, apart from the border of Mexico. We will venture into northern hill tribes and southern beach areas of Thailand, and also spend a week exploring the ancient ruins in Cambodia. With Alex's scholar program and my practicums, this school year has been so intense. This will be a much needed vacation! Don't worry, I will ride plenty of elephants.

Thanks for reading, hopefully I can do better documenting our various adventures!
Kellihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17546582405690037790noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3041836160439192812.post-84301581935154296332010-09-30T14:28:00.000-07:002010-09-30T14:45:55.254-07:00Fresh Chicken??

On Sunday Sa Jan & Hay Dar Yar's family had us over for dinner. They are too sweet, and even though we tell them not to give us anything, they always insist. Like this red top she gave me, that came all the way from Thailand. Alex says it feels like it should be the end of September by now... that's how busy we've been. Alex's Huntsman Business Scholarship program means school M/W/F 9-3, but that doesn't account for meetings he usually has until 5 or so. The first day of school he was informed they would be learning French 5 hours a week, so there goes Tuesday & Thursday. Don't mind the 200 pages of technical reading they assign everyday, or the 3 papers due each class period... add in the hours of work he tries to fit inbetween... we don't get a lot of time together right now :(

I really enjoy my classes, with several friends that make physics particularly more enjoyable. In my elementary music class we are actually learning to play (or re-play) recorders. I am pretty sure that I am the worst in the class. Today she made a generalized comment about how to prevent whistling... which I know was directed at me. I fail. Not to mention we have to sing solos/perform daily. Loving it.... pause.... not. But all my ESL classes are fantastic and I'm learning tons!

Labor day weekend was fun, with a Mortensen family shindig, featuring flying grasshoppers, and the Harris get together in Spanish Fork. We definitely got our family fix in. The tri-tip was a-mazing. Clark is quite the cook. And baby Soel is getting so big I can't believe it. I just want to freeze all my nieces and nephews in their cuteness. I don't know what I'm going to do when Traci takes all four of hers away to Dallas soon.

Hunger Games!! I finished the series. But I won't say anything to spoil it. I actually now have that sort of depressed, need more of the story feeling that comes with ending a book you really enjoy. But I'm delving back into Harry Potter, number four now, so all is well.

Alex is getting ready for the big Lotoja race this weekend. I'm very impressed, but can't say I wish I was doing it. It will be fun to cheer from the sidelines and be the official family team photographer :) (Brent, David and Melissa are also on board). I'm looking forward to a weekend at the cabin in any case. Things around here are too hectic. Going to school while being married is a lot harder than working was all summer. But it definitely is better in any case to come home to one another at the end of the day, no matter how late it is. La Dolce Vita.
Kellihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17546582405690037790noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3041836160439192812.post-38674395308305626832010-08-24T21:08:00.001-07:002010-08-24T21:20:23.564-07:00August UpdateAlex & I spoke together for the first time as a married couple in church on Sunday. I spoke for 8 minutes, and he had to fill the rest of the time ;) I always love hearing stories from his mission, they are pretty unbelievable, so I was excited that was his topic. I had to speak on reverence, we suspect because Alex is always teasing me and making me giggle during sacrament meeting...
We got to spend some time at the star valley cabin with the Mortensen's, and I caught my first fish! Alex got some good biking time in with his dad, and we came back in town to hit up the last night of the county fair. We had fun just walking around, and Alex was in heaven with the Thai bbq stand. He kept going back for more. Work is winding down for me, as the MEES, or migrant education, program of the ELC is closing due to lack of funds. I'm so sad, but have been loving the last 9 months. Alex luckily works with a different department, and I'm staying on as a volunteer, so we will still be involved with the families for awhile. School starts for us both on Monday, and Alex is getting so excited for his Europe trip. I'm slowly forgiving him, as he did after all surprise me with two new books today- Mockingjay & Ender's Game. He knows how to win me over. I'm in the middle of the third Harry Potter book, getting inspiration for our upcoming harry potter party (I'm determined to have one celebrating the new movie). My cousin Sara got married on Saturday, with a sweet little outdoor wedding/picnic/dancing in Ogden, and it was fun to see all of the family. It's strange how the older I get, the more time I wish I could spend with them all. We are so blessed to live by Alex's family and get to see them often. It was really fun to see relatives that don't live nearby, and the little ones who grow up so fast. We had a great time playing CRUD (Alex showed no mercy to his new relatives), sleeping on a flat airmattress, and floating down a river towards a thunderstorm. That was the best part, with my niece shrieking the entire time, and two babies sitting on laps. What were we thinking. The power went out in a storm one night, and my dad entertained everyone with his infamous lighthouse/cats horror story.

What wasn't fun, was when we were all loading up tubes for the river, my little 2 yr old nephew Caleb wandered off and was missing for a good twenty minutes. With large canoeing ponds on the sides of the lodge, it was the most sickening feeling to scout out the edges and reeds calling his name. In the end, Shanna found her little boy had climbed into a relative's van, just ready and waiting to go. Can't tell you how happy our tears were! Still have a tight stomach thinking about it.

I also went with Sarah and my parents to check out BYU-I (can't believe she's already looking at schools!) and was impressed. I had a negative perception just because its Idaho, and freezing up there, but it was a cute little campus.

We are back into cramming hours for work so we can take another few days off for the star valley cabin with the Mortensen's this week. We have been so busy the past few months! Even at home, Alex has taken up Mario Sunshine with a passion. And yes, yesterday when he conquered a difficult level, my front tooth got chipped in the excitement. I'm busy reading away the harry potter series in anticipation of the new movie. Can't believe school will be back in full swing in just a few weeks. October is coming too soon.
Kellihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17546582405690037790noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3041836160439192812.post-36242044477983280192010-08-03T10:28:00.000-07:002010-08-03T10:35:39.768-07:00Vegas<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxobNYawiKp1bvOL8YtBzcsIzqE0IPlYSecsWJtXN4iD-xXQCbJqmdM-wY3e9KU0KKruYVx5O3EcMQkJ1y3Kp3p0aZnHQbDQYOFOvSYu3FYxs9SBy05RJZR28QDyXZLBSjQxvolwqp9-qN/s320/DSCF2665.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5501237559055614706" />
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFLO_tWuNt8bwHKa_Qq5k3DCi9ST5u7BKZswM3Wb6EMbihDY_eDTGXwlTTqvaVibpOyFBveorDTumR5gAMS3p1KkN2FiFIDU4WGABIpam2VG_H35tdoWw63GdRtKWr6yzkhXCwInsPm49W/s320/DSCF2653.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5501237554083020690" />
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj278la1cw3UhsJ3ed6c8VX_Oef4Lc0iQc_w31t6F2E6rJPbYfz9Tj5DINd7PPEg54-R2PzOrGEN6G-lIY1WAp4FMaLpM-aYWXo8kktyFxnGMChpI9mPtsi2y1l4CCAPdOCNUGC9nsbB9Dp/s320/DSCF2651.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5501237545526654450" />
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmv99ctlJTqSV2I367vfHsXxM_r55Z3PrXXTssylmnPVifM-sq0p6jworBmxaNgA0tcPNbYmhLJQZA6_WydjcQA3jINZ9l5jb_lTss5rqSDuKjcukJAmMLW79ZRGHuF0Ntua9oUDTAZc6U/s320/DSCF2637.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5501237535785120882" />
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTgXnzcEHrWV8FkREcrEKknA4YgC4FgjO_zftJgRfid2tgk7JweMe4VDYRSwzcxT6BIWZNKPC0LodDdvt-0ngKKoM9ZR9g9VJs7GMKXwd9VabSGwwgvcHCpWzPUuGYh5k1zaHKC4e1AWLN/s320/DSCF2634.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5501237526982505394" />
Alex & I got to runaway to Vegas last weekend, and that was a BLAST. We drove down with Rob & Shawn, and the 16 hours of driving was well worth the trip. We saw Keane & Ingrid Michaelson perform in concert together which was fantastic. And we ate at the Wynn buffet and I thought I'd died and gone to heaven (seriously, I am a fat sow). We had to ride the New York New York, and it was fun to see all the new buildings that have been developed on the Strip. It was so nice to step out of our everyday doings and enjoy some vacation time, since we really haven't had that since we've been married. And last night was fun to drive down to Layton to watch the season finale of the bachelorette with all Alex's brothers and sisters (it was super funny). Now we're back into the swing of things.. Oh, and I got accepted into the Utah State Teacher Education Program, so we've been celebrating. School is coming up, and I'm looking forward to it! Except for the month of October... when Alex will be traveling Europe for a scholarship program.... He has been buried in books for this next semester, and I have compensated by picking harry potter back up. So I can't complain. We are just trying to soak up the last bit of summer now... heading off to the McClellan family reunion end of this week!Kellihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17546582405690037790noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3041836160439192812.post-56708471376629244362010-07-19T17:59:00.000-07:002010-07-19T18:04:21.281-07:00Farewell, old beater.We sold my maroon '89 mercury sable today. She was a very good beater. We had a love-hate relationship that began in May '09 and blossomed in June just one month later, when she broke down in Bliss, Idaho. We spent a grueling night together getting towed and sleeping at one of my dad's random military pals from thirty years ago, who conveniently lived in shoshone... and the rest is history.
Funeral march.
However... we sold her to my parents. So... this isn't so much goodbye, as see you later. Happy 16th birthday Sarah! (belated)
Mildred, you have been loved.
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUM7fgFwV80rZBm2LCyZzzPxqvpN1S-R0i_kjNmK3bTw0xDHxzvMR7P9mHOOeLsivces_JvuHwrObEzv-tg5GBHftMaoR51C9J3TyzRCKfuX5RCDbtvpejekf0oVDgKSCbLnrt-jxyF1HP/s320/DSCF2618.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5495787200899632882" />Kellihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17546582405690037790noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3041836160439192812.post-26474105949693240922010-07-17T13:28:00.000-07:002010-07-17T13:41:04.705-07:00These are a few of my favorite things...Alex and I made a trip down last weekend to Spanish Fork to visit the Harris's. We finally got to meet baby Soel! She is so so tiny and sweet, and I probably gave Niss an anxiety attack as I tried everything to get her to open her eyes. But she did, and she is absolutely angelic. I cant wait to get some little photos of her.

Shanna hosted a cousin dinner while we were down, and it was fun to get together and have Alex meet some new relatives. We made sticky rice and mangoes for everyone (big hit-i'm telling ya) And Shanna and Clark made home-made pizza for everyone. Like six different kinds (basil/tomato, pistachio, etc.. SO GOOD.) We are just waiting for them to open their restaurant. Seriously, to die for. They get really creative with gourmet ingredients.

On our way back to Logan, we stopped at the U of U hospital to visit Uncle Bruce. He had a bad accident falling fifteen feet from a moving hay-bale truck on the dry farm while we were on our backpacking trip. It's absolutely heartbreaking, and he is the greatest. We are praying for a speedy recovery, it was hard but so good to see him.

Last night we got to see London perform as Gretel in The Sound of Music opera. She was so darling, and even though we knew she was exhausted, she enchanted the audience :) And Alex actually enjoyed it as much as I did (he usually gets dragged along to these things with me).

We tried out Kamin's lunch buffet today-- superb. We worry about them getting enough business. Help support local businesses! They are our favorite... thai food YUM. Ask for the Pork Waterfall (trust me). Alex ventured on a thirty mile bike ride with david & his dad. I... slept. I went to girls camp a few nights ago and didn't get in till after 1 a.m... with work at 8. It was definitely fun though to spend some time with the girls. We still feel some long-term effects from mono around here... going to be a movie night.

Next week: Ingrid Michaelson/Keane concert in Las Vegas! Can't wait!Kellihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17546582405690037790noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3041836160439192812.post-12041505962618216782010-07-08T12:41:00.000-07:002010-07-08T13:00:31.154-07:00Backpacking into White PineAlex and I had a spontaneous overnight backpacking adventure into beautiful White Pine Lake over the 4th of July weekend. I haven't had such an adventure since my fourth year of girls camp. It was really hot out, but we got lucky with a breeze that made the 8 miles more bearable (roundtrip) it really went by fast considering. We crashed for a few hours after landing (I am a little out of shape) and then scaled the lake perimeter. It was kind of cold, there was still snow in some areas and alex made snowballs. And there were these really cool bright green plants all over the lake that reminded my of Alice in Wonderland. I had my first freeze-dried meal, and the lasagna was pretty good. Alex says everything tastes better in the mountains. Let me tell ya, Ritz crackers never tasted so good as when we first got to our campsite. I learned how to purify water, and felt pretty legit with my new pocket knife. The lake was absolutely gorgeous, and Alex successfully started a one-match fire (applause) :) And for once in the outdoors, I wasn't worried about getting eaten by bears. And there were some nice old fishermen nearby just in case.
<img style="display:block; But only because I've been waking up at 7 a.m. for the last four weeks. Alex & I tackled the house. Weeding/watering/cleaning/decorating. We got a new scentsy candle warmer and our house smells divine & the vacuum lines are wonderful. Hahaha, it's weird, but we both love it. There is just something about a pristine living space that makes you feel so productive and good.

Last night was an adventure as well. We went mountain biking on the river trail up Logan Canyon, my first mt. biking excursion. I absolutely died on the way up, while Alex took it like a pro. But I LOVED the downhill. Then we had a bbq at the Mortensen home, and Alex & I braved climbing the roof. We had an amazing few of the fireworks from the stadium across the valley. It was very romantic, and well worth getting frozen in fear climbing on and off the roof :) We made sticky rice & mangoes for the family, but we suspect no one quite appreciates it like we do. It WAS delicious.

Next adventure: camping/backpacking trip to White Pine Lake. Can't wait! Alex is sure breaking me into getting in touch with my "nature" side. I'm getting more granola by the second. :DKellihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17546582405690037790noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3041836160439192812.post-76282886555387682582010-06-30T16:57:00.000-07:002010-06-30T17:18:51.346-07:00Star Valley Trip<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 200px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbltyWTl7MtdnY-_hs9JvXcOgoRnZHKoxEJ78mlDAIECOJjMfMxdz-lm6IkJr7NC3MKG9K5RjIQE40BebXAj9A7PrWfYiEcythKSE-hjA9Utb1iK3e1KrQyd38UBfniel6U0ry-Twhyz61/s320/star+valley+2010.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5488724332464102482" />
We spent 8 days with the Harris Family at the Mortensen Star Valley Cabin (take 2 from our honeymoon haha). It's amazing how fast it went by! Between so much traveling here to star valley to spanish fork, etc and both working full time its been a blur! What a happy one :) This next month will be even better with a trip planned to the star valley cabin with the whole harris bunch-- can't wait! And we are finally feeling all healthy and good again! It's been a roller coaster, but I'm grateful alex has been such a sweetheart while i went through the flu and pretty much everything else in the last few weeks! Here's to many more months of happiness and new adventures :)
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 213px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhse7NFiKWhRQzVeTgReFQvDt_oI6WidAxcAG4hjv1q4MlWHkjCEFCjcoYEGKEzQPLgenlU4h2dqy7tckwpO6vBGntcjgpmGAzxRUq-HCY_zPXh4wDdy9P7XprJQAlBr-_DchQcIRHq6Wmu/s320/889376816_44h5q-XL-1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5482332286243115202" />
alex & i have started a tradition of sharing our Family Home Evening nights with the refugee families. Alex & I helped coordinate and distribute bikes to the families in need. I couldn't resist bringing along a camera. We are loving every second of it.

The actual day itself was kind of a happy blur. The night before, our immediate families got together for a nice dinner at Hamilton's hosted by the Mortensen parents. It was absolutely delicious, and we got to view our wedding video. It was fun watching all the nieces and nephews making friends, and having our families there with us all together. There were toasts, and funny stories, and it was a happy way to spend the night.
On the big day, Alex and the boys went golfing, while the Harris's bustled around with wedding details. He enjoyed stepping away to take a breath, and I enjoyed being in the center of the plans. Everything came together, and we had a surprisingly sunny warm afternoon that turned into rain and storm clouds right as we were to be married. I didn't feel nervous until about 5 minutes before we started and then as soon as I saw Alex, it all went away. Those few minutes exchanging our vows were so moving for me. Our guests were troopers in the bad weather, and we finished up just in time. We served yummy coldstone ice-cream and had a fabulously colorful candy bar, credit to my mom and the very talented sister, Shanna Kesler. We didn't sample very much of it, but it was a very pretty display. My feet hurt so bad from standing in the receiving line that I tossed my shoes off for a bit... but when I noticed the glances guests were making at my bright pink toes, I was a little embarrassed. Alex swept me across the dance floor to our song "Can't Help Falling in Love" and it still feels like we're dancing on cloud nine.

We honeymooned in Jackson Hole. We had planned to stay at the family cabin in Star Valley, but we had an interesting experience with an attempted break-in on our first night, and had to find a hotel in town at midnight. That was quite the adventure. We spent the next few days enjoyed the shops and restaurants in Jackson, and I got to eat at Alex's favorite Merry Piglet's (or piggle wiggles as I call it). Iron Man 2 and Robin Hood were both disappointments, but we came home and spent the rest of the time here relaxing and watching movies and it has been wonderful. We are still recovering from the semester, finals, wedding, etc. so we definitely appreciate the down time. Getting moved in and decorating has been a little too much fun! (I think Alex enjoys it as much or more than I do). Now it's back to work this week, which is exciting because we miss our families. We had eight of the refugee families come to our reception, and that made our night. Such a happy time :)Kellihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17546582405690037790noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3041836160439192812.post-24985657767774683762010-05-03T13:00:00.000-07:002010-05-03T13:04:55.742-07:00Final Countdown*Play Gob's music theme from Arrested Develpoment*

what we've been doing...

speaking in church... alex actually repeated over the pulpit that i told him i had butterflies. but not just any butterflies, butterflies with fangs. thanks, sweetie. it was special sitting together though, and a lot less nerve racking than usual.

moving in... our painting and flooring projects are all done and i'm hussling to get out of one place into our new one by thurs!

work... we got a few new refugee families in, and got to register them together for school. it's so fun to work together with these wonderful people. i even dragged alex along to kindergarten club with me last week. we got cookies and capri suns. score.

birthdays... we celebrated great aunt phyllis's 95 birthday. and get this, she got her license renewed until 2015! watch out haha

finals... poor alex is sick AGAIN, this happened to him last finals. hopefully he can make it through. tomorrow will be brutal- he has 3 back-to-back. i've only got three total, but i'm studying away...

wedding...! well, almost... ten days! :)Kellihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17546582405690037790noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3041836160439192812.post-81039483086322690842010-04-21T06:16:00.001-07:002010-04-21T06:23:43.070-07:00Alex & I had our first bridal shower last night (yes, Alex came :) We had a little debate over who the gifts belonged to, and I tried to remind him it wasn't a groomal shower haha but he was very cute. It was hosted by some very sweet ladies in Margaret's ward. Tons of women I don't know, but that watched Alex grow up or have some kind of connection to his family. The food was fantastic (cake, custard and berries) and we got spoiled rotten. It was so fun to hear some congratulations and open cards, and hear funny stories about Alex growing up. It just made us anxious for the big day! I'm excited to go to Ogden this weekend for a shower with my family, and then to get to know Alex's family better on Saturday. Plans are slowly but surely wrapping up, just a few details here and there.... We also picked out new tiling for the kitchen floor yesterday (exciting!) poor Alex has slaved away removing the old flooring, and we're so excited to finish up and start getting things moved in.Kellihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17546582405690037790noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3041836160439192812.post-84748627884173968562010-04-14T22:30:00.000-07:002010-04-14T22:36:00.502-07:00no time, no time, no time...
NO TIME.

 for: studying, schooling, working, remodeling, familying, weddinging, eating, sleeping, repeating.

But only 29 days till tying the knot.

...and that's something to celebrate.

Kellihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17546582405690037790noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3041836160439192812.post-48525190563748333362010-04-12T16:13:00.000-07:002010-04-12T16:41:43.126-07:00A Winter PicnicThis past weekend Alex & I got to take some time off and head to the Star Valley Cabin with his family. It was a nice escape from all the business that is consuming us with work and school and planning. We watched Sherlock Holmes (bit of a disappointment) and 10,000 BC (much better), but the big event was the twenty-ish mile bike ride alongside the Tetons. The best kept secret is the road that is closed during winter opens up for the month of April exclusively to bikers/hikers. The views were beautiful and we picnicked by a frozen lake. The tranquility was angelic. Luckily it was a warmer day, and only my fingers went numb! Alex is convinced I need my own road bike now... but he definitely is too pro to keep up with.
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimAmVnKUDh8mrfEf7jXZXb8wG6pih7Dj8sw5wXncuwc03DOjvvUZFeJBbmYFYzP73VPucufva1SV-neqZ4N0IKv8gRxiQHBi5tf7CWo83lfdBNbdfsvJug0utvF3sEVmwsY6Cn4aV6Xyqe/s320/DSCF2390.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5459394967870599746" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 200px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJrkJY5O4HmtX-I7pox79ax-1Z0aovUqe7dRuYuifs6fMvCNt6fb633cWpzgOFXcRkyIvVWaZeZGP1uewj-iTobWWMqr26A0gxvw2AKpKo4weR37eYzCgeQz389-bo8K85FoJuxHxQ2qWO/s320/DSCF2386.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5459394961628319474" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHAMh9TNngC5crlRGTsAzjrO4QvlCQIZoevP9-NtcWtxWb76cdECge0iEo8zM5qbmRfyZlSH3E0L5wfJ0KgmJi1f1rdGpG-TJM-Xvjs6oQ1ySVwqgD_65UcFSpj8qJ9_sKs6p2s1eohHrZ/s320/DSCF2384.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5459394953148972274" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgoJ-1Hjh9cg3i7kYtGTEJK_vZqcfFytz-2gF9kw7UnIIMGOdYzHM_kRen0smhlGR2Lg1xoRcyyxJe0IEMJN2u2Pr0OaC7E_PET5PhezcKQrm7i0_wJbMXHCki_N76sknLoy2v0VZkrzepF/s320/DSCF2303.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5459398887842719874" />
Now it's back to real life and the home make-over project :)Kellihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17546582405690037790noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3041836160439192812.post-83901810553528238302010-04-04T21:12:00.000-07:002010-04-04T21:26:15.169-07:00EasterWe went down south over Easter weekend. Friday night we got to go to one of Alex's mission reunions, eat thai food, dominate mario kart with an old companion and his lady friend, and make our selves sick on greasy burgers and too-chocolatey milkshakes. It was a good night. Then we spent Saturday down in Spanish Fork with the Harris's, and got to watch Sarah compete in an invitational track meet. We watched the conference sessions, and the girls dyed Easter eggs with the kids while the boys went to priesthood.

Alex modeling his special fat sow egg that I made him:

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5msOxuK0gHLmRzku157i7z5CFwcwp-oLEUql-SYbGa4aUCK1Z2-GFAorZwbaxaRggWX0GATSV47UQqgpT1Q4n11Z0PwNEtIZsUEAIVNmEsb8kVYrT2AG19eNNPzvUuI3ntKSXAkcG0lDd/s320/DSCF2360.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5456501758930486130" />

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKjL8F0nCKm3ymeIy0klVQdeezGBVdNEAV74UXWMz14OmUkGjeapaIgLnLuR6UD0rp1PG3U3zTyFb4YxrcJ5HecApsec3g3JPo38IPfh-UFzAPzL7ryDY_wGHr3SkNvrbxlZNPBKrZxrU9/s320/DSCF2375.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5456501765088326626" />
On sunday we got to visit some good friends in Salt Lake. They are so kind and generous, we just wanted to drop off some Easter goodies, and couldn't leave without a full meal including delicious spicy papaya salad that put our mouths on fire. Kral Shal learned his ABC's and sang every one to me, and I'm sad that they moved from Logan and I don't get to have him in our program here. Excited to meet their new little one coming in June!
Then we ran up to conference, and traffic was a nightmare, and the parking garage was even worse. But it was my first time actually attending conference and it was a beautiful day, and there's no one else I'd rather have spent it with :)

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqVqS_szp9-hgU2R5t5IQtNHrNsSM4lkqGkyo-EmxMcj9pXBgyoHkcDGzINy-wuhApv03g4zPsmwi4Loci4pHlE5dg3AJLbsnIyt1CD0oJ5QuSUtFZWTOeBJ-XZ8oQICyGRWGNCFrV-d3z/s320/DSCF2378.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5456501775725532162" />Kellihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17546582405690037790noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3041836160439192812.post-78440244506781713162010-04-02T06:47:00.000-07:002010-04-02T08:53:19.488-07:00
"When you are in love, you can't fall asleep because reality is better than your dreams." -Dr. Suess

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 213px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimZiGYS0L8jQEBnHsaqThTlpZtsiABlVvsO_3t8xzdJuLrHUVd1YMnoKw-KCZXxT6p4wS8KcxAkwoWzkTgRhBCnY4kkyhjpk4Xm90k7Kkh9Lgqpsfl6gjXXq3-oXwYUkV5qko-zqeJ-YQN/s320/813578082_y822k-XL-1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5455536937440630338" />Kellihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17546582405690037790noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3041836160439192812.post-26174337716725156742010-03-27T22:01:00.000-07:002010-03-30T10:41:18.631-07:00How to Train Your DragonHow to train your dragon= great success. One of my favorite things about life right now is my job. Alex works as the Logan Refugee Specialist, a perfect fit for him since he gets along better with foreigners than anyone I've ever seen, and also speaks Cambodian and Thai. He looks after over a hundred families in the area who have relocated from their native countries, with no English skills, jobs, homes, etc he pretty much is their go-to person for everyday things that are second-nature to us, but completely foreign to them. I volunteered in some of his English classes he teachers, which led into working with the English Language Center of Cache Valley. I work twice a week in the refugee pre-school, with children and their mothers from Burma who have little to no English skills. Then I also do home visits and tutoring with several of the families. We are focusing on learning the alphabet to get them ready for kindergarten next fall. My translator, Hser Doh, or Chapter as we like to call him, is a Karen refugee himself from Burma. He is about my age, and has an incredible story of how he was driven from his village and separated from his parents in the jungle at the age of 12. He has acclimated very well into American culture, and it astounds me every time I think about what has been through and how it must be for him, the only member of his family that came to America from the refugee camps.
Anyway, as part of our English learning incentive program, we got to take Soe Maya's entire family to the movies after she learned the alphabet. It proved very successful, as it drew in the parents to participate in learning English, and her brothers were so darling and proud of her when she identified all the letters to me after months of studying together. None of them have ever been to the movie theater before. On the way there, one of them asked Alex, "so the screen is really big? like five feet?" and we got to go to a 3D showing of How to train your dragon, and it was sooo fun to look down the row at all their grinning faces and watch them reach out and try to touch the things popping out of the screen. The movie was very cute, and even though I had to pass on the popcorn, it was fun to watch them all have their first movie experience. Sometimes it is easy to take for granted the "normal" aspects of our culture, and that's what I appreciate most about spending time with these families. It reminds me how much we are blessed with in our country, and their example of gratitude and generosity when they have almost nothing is heart-wrenching and humbling. I was happy to be able to be apart of their special outing today. Alex and I are so lucky to have our wonderful jobs working with the refugees and to build friendships with such loving people.

Kellihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17546582405690037790noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3041836160439192812.post-930871353611338262010-03-25T13:01:00.000-07:002010-03-25T14:22:11.109-07:00So I've spent the last hour that I should have spent in my science class creating this blog. I guess I just want to be apart of that "cool" married community who move from facebook to blogs for real updates/interactions. I'm so nerdy and excited, so expect great things... or expect nothing at all.

Things we've been up to...
Engagement
Getting married comes with tons more planning than I could have ever anticipated. The past six weeks have been a blur, and its amazing that in almost that much time we will be married!
Home Improvements
We found a place to live! A little fourplex on the south side of town conveniently owned by alex's dad. We've decided to take on a home makeoever project, and are busy painting, installing blinds, installing linoleum, picking out furniture, etc. It's so fun to turn on the music and get our hands dirty painting our first home together :) But it IS a huge project and I think alex definitely pulls most of the weight!
Baptism
Oh, the question everyone has. I was baptized into the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on March 20 in Spanish Fork, and re-established my initial baptism date of June 6, 1996. What a journey it's been for me. Sometimes what you are looking for your whole life is right in front of you the whole time. I'm grateful to be exactly where I am, to have been where I've been, and to have learned what I've learned. Alex's family made the trip down and a few close friends and it could not have been a happier day.

word of the day

Glee.
glee |glē|noun1 great delight : his face lit up with impish glee.2 a song for men's voices in three or more parts, usually unaccompanied, of a type popular esp. c. 1750–1830.
ORIGIN Old English glēo [entertainment, music, fun,] of Germanic origin. Sense 2 dates from the mid 17th cent.

see also: photo above.
Kellihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17546582405690037790noreply@blogger.com2
